S70 water pump torque specs

Post by Rysieq »

Finally purchased all parts at the local Volvo dealer (got 15% discount) to replace TB on my S70 1998. I also bought a new water pump. Found torque specs for mech. tensioner (20Nm) and idler pulley (24Nm), but cannot find specs for the water pump. Can someone tell me the torque specs for the water pump? Thank you much in advance.

15 lb/ft - I don't have my cheat sheet handy to convert that to Newton Meters.

No need to convert - my torque wrench has both scales.
Thank you very much for the info.

DO NOT torque the water pump bolts to 15 Foot Pounds, this equals 180 inch pounds and WILL snap off the bolts. I did it after reading your post, thanks for that. Lucky for me it didn't strip out the aluminum threads first. The correct torque is 17 NM or 150 inch pounds.

Old post resurrection warning...

On my 1999 the correct torque is

Water Pump To Block 17 Nm (13 ft lb)

If your bolts snapped, it was not the extra 2 ft lbs, the bolts were already dead.
