2001 v70t5 stuck at idle

My 2001 V70 T5 has been running fine for the past 2000 miles, no idle or throttle response issues. Today, after a hot restart, no throttle was stuck at idle. There was no response in any gear. Tried putting in neutral, put pedal all the way down, still no response. Shut engine off and restarted, and throttle response returned. Hopefully, I can get home without any problem, but I need to develop an action plan.

Hey there, schuster-
I would say the first thing you need to do is get your trouble codes read through your OBD-II port and see if there are any stored codes...they will show up even if you don't have a check engine light on. If there is a code related to the ETM, then you can take it to the dealer to see what they say. You are covered on this part for 200K miles or 10 years. If they want to put your car through a throttle body cleaning, etc. and charge you for it first, then I would think again. You could easily spend the amount of money for a non-contacting (new, non-Volvo) ETM by the time you do all the dealer service stuff (before they honor the warranty). Hi All,
Took my car to McKevitt Volvo in Berkeley, since I was about 60 miles from home. They looked at it quickly, but could not find any codes relating to the ETM. They searched a database, and decided to download a newer verion of ETM operating software, took it for a test drive, and sent me on my way. So far so good, but it's too soon to tell if it's really fixed. Throttle seems a little more responsive, but wasn't bad before either. If problem recurs, I will post another reply. Thanks for your advice.

To me, that makes me think there's something wrong with the accelerator pedal (AP) module, not the ETM. If you move the AP, but the throttle doesn't respond, that will throw a code. If the AP has a potentiometer that's going, the signal won't change going to the ECM and the ECM will think you're always at idle--that may not throw a code if the failure is purely in the pot inside the AP module.

Your comment about the accelerator module being the culprit makes sense. I'm not sure what to look for, is this a powered module or just a variable resistor that determines pedal position? Like I said, shutting the car off and re-starting it corrected the problem. Since I had the software download for the TCM, the problem has not recurred. It was a one-time thing.

Two years later, and this problem never recurred. I can assume it was a software glitch corrected by the Volvo dealer's software upgrade.

hi, 2000 s60

After reading all about the e.t.m problems, my s60 (2000) was put in for the free upgrade but after around 3-6 months it ran into the more serious problems. I paid volvo to replace the throttle housing and an etm reload. I am now experiencing the same problem again. Although it was almost 3 years ago, I've only done 12,000 miles. As i live in Rip-Off-Britian, I don't know exactly if if I'm entitled to a partial refund, a discounted replacement, or as us Galswesgians say...Hee Haw!! (Nothing)? Any advice would be most welcome.
