My 94 855T has a new problem, when I get in the car and turn the key to the start position I get nothing. I turn it back to position "1" and then try again, no problem.
I've had the flickering cluster lights, and I'm assuming I need to replace the key ignition.
Could someone provide me with part numbers and any other helpful info. Or perhaps I'm getting this all wrong?
Key turning ignition, nothing on first turn

Mike,
It might be the ignition switch, but in my case with a similar problem there was a fault in the circuits between the ignition switch and the solenoid. Eventually it wouldn't start at all. I replaced the switch and that didn't help. I ended up connecting a permanent wire from the "service connector" in the fuse box to the solenoid blade terminal. It's still working. My guess is that it's a bad PNP switch, but I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. You might want to check with a test wire from the service terminal. Mine is a 98 V70 but I think they are similar.
If you aren't getting dash lights and fuel pump running at position two, I would guess the ignition switch.

I replaced the mechanical portion of the ignition switch in my '98 V70 (146m) yesterday. The most useful diagnostic act I performed before going this route was to separate the electrical part of the switch from the mechanical, reattach the wiring harness to it, and with a screwdriver rotate the part that would normally be turned by the key driving the mechanical portion. In my case, when the starter motor engaged predictably by doing this, it showed that even though the mechanical portion seemed to be working properly on the infrequent occasions it stopped turning 360 degrees (the fuel pump would pressure up, the return spring in the electrical portion would get tight, and, when the key reached the end of its travel in position 3, one of the idiot lights would turn off, the headlights would dim, and a click sound would come from beyond the face of the dash), it really wasn't rotating far enough to complete a circuit between the #30 and #50 posts of the switch needed to energize the starter. So this would give you some idea if it was the mechanical or electrical part of the switch that was at fault. On the other hand, from the many posts I've read in this forum, it seems that when cluster of lights start blinking (a symptom I've never experienced) it's usually the electrical part that's gone bad.
