New 2005, V50 ordered. Do I need extra clear coating?

Hello Volvo onwers!

Yesterday, I walked into local Volvo dealer (Toronto, Canada), and got the Metallic Silver 2005, V50. So, I'm waiting for the dealer to find a car for me.

Today, the sales person called me to consider purchasing Rust Proofing, Paint-Clear-Coating, and leather protection.

I do not care about leather protection, but I need to ask you guys if I need 'clear-coating'. Do I NEED clear-coating? I heard Volvo cars are well built for winter driving so, I'm thinking of bypassing rust-proofing, but i'm not sure about clear coating.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

My personal $.02 on this is that it's a bunch of horsesh!t that dealers make extra money from. Why would Volvo let cars out of the factories with poor -- or no -- rustproofing?!

Pinstriping used to be offered just this way -- a dealer-added item -- until it went (way) out of vogue.

This dealer offer is like Ticketmaster's ticket service fee charge -- except in this case it's optional :).

Cars will rust just as easily with another layer of clear coat and "rust-proofing". The rustproofing will actually hurt as the non-treated areas will have a higher rate of electrollisis. The leather conditioner you can do yourself once every 3 to 4 months.

This is just a money maker add on for the dealer.
