the thing that holds the drivers door open seems to have broken loose at the body. My sister has a 2000 crx. the same thing happened to hers. So it's a common fault. Any easy fixes other that disconnect the stop?
secondly, I read the fuel economy entries. I've disconnect the battery frequently when working on the car. However, I've never discharge the system as suggested. Recently, the mileage seems to have fallen off: 22.1 on a trip from fresno, ca to seattle. The car runs well. Ocassionally, at idle it skips a beat but, quickly recovers.
I'll try the discharge, and take a look at the air filter thermostat. Thank you I appreciate the input. george
ps. my cd player won't recognize a cd. It keeps shuffling, or cycling the cd. I've cleaned the laser site and run a cleaning cd through it. Any suggestions? How does the cd player recognize that a cd is in position? Is that a function of the laser? It worked at first, but slowly got worse. I purchased the car, '98 V70 R, last Dec.

The folks at the Volvo dealer parts counter know this part well. The original part was superseded with a later version. One version has threaded posts that take nuts, the other version has holes and requires bolts as well as nuts.
It's not a difficult repair--I did it in the parking lot at work during lunch and still had time for a sandwich.
There's a great how-to at https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?p=40467
Fix this before someone parks facing downhill and opens the door. It will swing forward and damage both the door and the fender.
