Brake Fluid leak?

Post by francisgrice »

I have been adding DOT 4 fluid to my 95 850 over the last few months. I see no signs of leakage anywhere? I don't drive it hard but wonder if ut could be burning off? I have used 2 12oz containers. The light comes on and I fill it up again. The brakes look fine. What could it be???

It has to be leaking somewhere. Do you have a stick or an automatic? The clutch system uses brake fluid if you have a stick. If not it might be leaking around the rear seal on the master cylinder into the brake booster.

Thanks for the tips. I found a leak at the perportioning valve. I got a used one from Affordable Auto Wrecking in Portland, Oregon. (They have alot of Volvo cars and 1990 and newer cars, and suvs). I replaced it and the leak stopped. I tried to tighten the lower line going into this valve but it still leaked. It was leaking from the bottom of this valve only when brake pedal was depressed. Joe was very helpful at Affordable A/W in Portland. He has alot of Volvo parts knowledge.
