Transmission: how hard to remove

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Transmission: how hard to remove

Post by s80lovenhate »

I have joined that select group of volvo owners that has transmission troubles. WHat opinions are there out there on pulling the transmission in terms of time required and difficulty. I have done timing belt, oil pump, all suspension, etc. on this car. but my digital manual gave up the ghost. So before I go find another manual, I wanted an opinion or two about how hard and time consuming it was to get the transmission out (the plan is then to take it to the nice man that rebuilds transmissions). Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Lots of special tools are needed and one of my manuals states 7.10 hours for R & I. Not a job for the faint hearted.

Thanks, I am about three times slower than your typical pro, so 1.5 days to get it out, 1.5 days to get it back in (you are right not for the faint of heart, but life is an adventure, right??). SPecial tools?? DO you have a sense of how neccessary. I find sometimes that I can do just fine without the special tool, other times, there is no way.

Finally, do you a schematic of how it comes apart?

Thanks again.

Find the VADIS program and install it

you may have to resort to setting up a screen name and so forth but overall it's not too difficult. You'll put in your information and click on the trans icon.. on the left side you will scroll down and expand one of those lists and you'll see something about maintenance. on the right side you'll scroll down and do the same and find r&i of transmission... I know this isn't specific but I don't have access to that program currrently to give you a step by step... good luck
