V70 t5, 2001- Sounds like a Porsche when I accelerate!

Post by K9 Nanny »

Hi there! I've happily owned nothing but Volvos since I started driving; I seem to be unable to buy anything else! And I'm so glad that I found this site-
My current car has started making 3 noises, I don't know what they could be, or if they're related? Probably not, but they all started at the same time.

Background info; The car has 125,000 miles, and the transmission was replaced a year ago, June. It shifts/runs totally fine. Gets great gas mileage.
I had a brake job 3 months ago...

So...this week end, it started sounding like a Porsche when I accelerate. That's the best way to describe the sound. But it runs great.
Also, the brakes sound like they're grinding, and there is a metal rubbing noise when I turn the wheel to the left. Agh. Not fun in the rain.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. My Volvo mechanic retired and I am now at the mercy of my local dealership... Thanks!

Does it grow a whale-tail when the moon is full? Your car was bitten by a Were-Carrera. You might have blown out a little packing in the muffler. Take it to a muffler shop and have them look it over for leaks. Grinding is never good...unless you are in 10th grade.

Thanks, but it's not the Harley sound from the rear. I'd recognize that.
The sound is in the front. This is an engine area noise.
BTW, I forgot to mention in the original post, it's a car made for the US.
