Volvo Repair Database SC-816 CD Changer and iPod Switcher

Post by Rabbit-Rabbit »

Greetings!

I decided to build my SC-816 CD Changer and iPod switching device. It has been installed in one of my 2000 V70XC's. It works very well. Sounds no different than it did when I had the CD Changer only.

I am very pleased with it (considering that is a prototype)

Here are a few pictures:

Here is the rough schematic:

Here is the CD Changer and MP3 device (My Blackberry Storm):

Here is where I located the components (USA SPEC PA11-HON, wires and switcher):

Here is the Rear left corner where the antenna wiring is located (Tapped into constant 12V and switched 12V):

And the Antenna Switch:

Cheers! Rabbit :)

Nice right up. Never thought of doing this. Is there away to get this to work with an ipod so that you can change the tracks from the head unit?

Yes! You can change tracks from the head unit when using an iPod! :)

This particular design uses the USA SPEC PA11-HON device with the CDL-VOL cable. Any iPod adapter (Blitzsafe or USA SPEC)can be used with this circuit. You could have 2 CD Changers or 2 iPod adapters or 2 MP3 players (via a USA SPEC or Blitzsafe with AUX INPUTS) - or a mixure of any two devices connected. :) The design doesn't care what you plug into it. The antenna switch uses the OEM switch and wiring cable to connect to the HU. I use the 12V from the antenna switch going to the antenna wiring in the rear to switch a relay. Works like a champ! :)

Nice job.

Is there a way to do this modification without already owning the CD changer? Any accessories/adapters to go from the HU CD changer port to 1/8th stereo?

I'm with sjlevine on this, what's available to connect a 3.5mm jack to CD changer input... or can I build it myself?

Thanks

This clearly rocks.

My wallet is allergic to Apple's stylish devices.

Questions:

1)Did I undestand you correctly when you said that this would work with any MP3 player?

2) Are the harness wires at the CD changer generally the same? I have a 1995 960 and this would save some serious cash.

Thanks,
Bright
