1998 V70R stock 16" wheels with 225/50ZR16 tires

I'm getting ready to replace my tires and I'm thinking about going to a slightly wider tire. Has anybody done this and how did it work?

The wider the tyre you go the smaller the aspect ie the bit that goes between the wheel and tread

205/50/17 would become 210/45/17 any good tyre company will be able to work it out for you but thats a guide so your speedo isnt altered in a major way like it would if you went from 16 to 17 inch without altering the tyre size. Wider tyres give far better cornering ability on the negative size cost more and some say they alter the fuel economy but I've never found that

Thanks for the reply. More specificly, I'm comparing the specs of the O.E. size 205/55ZR16 and the 225/50ZR16 in a Dunlop SP Sport . Same diameter, just slightly wider. Is this a popular upgrade to switch to the wider tire for my 1998 V70R on the stock wheels? Will it rub on full lock? Are there any associated problems?

You'll need 5 or 10mm spacers for 225/50/16.

If you don't install them you will have a big rubbing at front and the rear.
At front...at full lock
at back...on the plastic inside the bumper.

may not be useful to this topic i guess, but anyway...

i am on 18" alloy with 42 offset.
front tire 225/40ZR18 with 8.5JJ alloy + 20mm alloy spacer to accomodate the bbk. the fender has been rolled.
rear tire 245/35ZR18 with 9.0JJ alloy + 25mm alloy spacer for the wider tire to go in...and the rear well fender was cut narrow by 0.75" otherwise it will rub my tire everytime i go over hump.

rubbing? my plastic has long time gone and i just dont care..
