How to replace inner tie rods S60
How to replace inner tie rods S60
Hi, the repair database was extremely helpful when it came to replacing my outer tie rods on my 01 S60 T5 but i was wondering if anyone can give me some guidance on how to change my inner tie rods? Your help is appreciated! Thanks

Maybe this will help you - looks like a pretty good write-up to me:

There shouldn't be much difference between an XC and your S60 - the suspension components on any car are essentially the same.

I've never done inners on any car myself, so I can't be of much help to you
I'm gonna move this over to the S60 forum so anyone that's worked on one will be able to help you more than we can in the 850 section.

The instructions on how to do inners that is linked is a good procedure and the one I used. If I have any additional advice it would be to use a strap wrench as a counterhold on the rack. A medium pipe wrench works well to grab the inner rod, but mine would not just twist off. So the strap wrench had enough resistance to allow the wrench to loosen the rod without putting any strain in the rack.
Cheers,
Bill

This is the best write up on how to do tie rods. Everything is almost identical to the S60 except the outer tie rods. Disconnecting the outer tie rod from the inner and wheel is a bit different. You'll probably have to break the nut that holds the outer tie rod to the wheel assembly with a breaker bar at first just to loosen it up a bit. Then you'll have to use channel locks or pliers to hold the middle bolt while you loosen the nut with a wrench. Otherwise the nut will just keep spinning and never loosen. You also don't have to cut the boot up either to remove it like the guy did in the write up. After you remove the outer tie rod pop that nut off and then look at towards the back of the boot and you'll see the bellows clamp and you can just knock that off with a punch or screw driver and then remove the boot. Then just use some kind of cheap clamp to reattach. Saves money on having to buy a new boot kit .
