Inner tie rods matching correct steering rack

Post by kahl »

I was getting new inner tie rods for my V70 XC. The counter guy asked if I had a 4 or a 5 rack. The data plate on the left inner fender has this information. Checking the fifth line down on the right side of the divide on the data plate. The last digit should be a 4 or a 5.

4 means you have a TRW rack, boot P/N 271601

5 means you have a SMI rack, boot P/N 9191409

I just fitted some inner & outer tie rods to my 2000 V70 and I have a 5 on that last digit. They must have been the SMI ones as I had them sitting on the shelf for a while. My steering rack boot was marked SMI also.
