Hi tblo760,
Since you know a thing or 2 about sunroofs perhaps you can help me. I have a '89 760t wagon. In order to get my roof to close all the way I have to manually push that black spring loaded thingy down to get it to close all the way. Now, having done that, if the roof comes too far forward the rear right side of roof actually seems to collapse and leaves a large gap. I can power it back to the position where the margines around the sunroof and are the same. Any solution to this?
thanks marty

Hi,
It is a factory original, metal, and the piece that I have to hold down in order for the roof to completely close stretches from side rail to side rail and it appears as if the rollers on the actual sunroof are supposed to suppress the guard and push it down in order for it to close properly. I'll see if i can locate the exact name for what I am calling a thingy.
thanks

Wind deflector?
I'm going to split this off into the RWD section for you guys. I'll PM you both a link to it.

If it's the wind deflector,(blackplastic "thingy" at the front) then this is a common fault, take it off all together and see the result. There is a repair that you can make, fix a small piece of metal or stiff plastic about half way along 1 of the thin rods to stop it lifting all the way up.I'll try and draw it up,and post it.mtemart wrote:Hi,

Ok.Marty,I've had this on every 700,the small operating rods are just not strong enough to survive, and the wind deflector is not closing quick enough before the lid shuts. You can do without it if you wish,if not, then just follow the instructions in the 'scetch'mtemart wrote:Hi,

Both my 88 740 and my 94 940 do the same thing, I just taped it down and live with it. Its a volvo thing.
Thanks to everyone for the solution to the "wind thingy".
However, this seemed to be the least of my roofy problems. As I was examining the rest of my sunroof I noticed some leakage, (actually while giving it a very over-due wash), and that one side of roof was lower than the other.(See previous and newer postings).
So, after all was said and done, I ended up going to the j/y and getting a complete roof unit, including track, for $48. First thing I did was, as advised, was rip the "wind-thingy" totally off of replacement roof!!
