rear hatch won't open on xc70

I have a 2000 XC70 and the rear hatch will not open. Went by the dealership and they said the latch would most likely have to be replaced. Has anyone run into this problem and could you give me the info for fixing it at home? Thanks!

I have a 98' xc70 and over the years when the weather is too freezing cold the rear latch will not shut until it warms up. I have been able in the past to close it but now it will not close. Don't know any solutions.

I have had a similar problem. When it is below 5 the rear hatch does not latch? When it warms up later in the day no problem it latches. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Same problem on my 2000 XC70. I had Swedish Engineering take a look at it, but they couldn't find anything. It wasn't cold at the time so it obviously didn't act up on them.

I'm thinking of just replacing the whole lock and wire.
