Front suspension expertise

I've got an '03 S80 with 54K miles that developed a clunking noise in the front suspension. Thanks to the forum, I replace the front sway bar links which appears to have solved the noise issue. During installation of the new links I happened to notice that one of my outer tie rods also made a clanking noise when rotated. Should there be any movement in the outer and inner tie rods? As always, thanks for your insights!

No play is allowed , it directly effects toe setting on your alignment and shows as wear to inside edge of front tires , normally. Replace as required , reset alignment ... G
