SRS Sensor: where does this piece of foam go?!

Post by Dasrah »

I recently removed the 3rd row seat from my '01 V70 T5 in preparation for some Dynamat. While I was at it, I decided t remove the 3rd row shoulder straps that come down from the ceiling. Well, when I pulled down the first piece of trim(above rear window, between D-pillar and back door) a small piece of foam about the size and shape of a domino fell out with it. After I had it down, I realized there was an airbag sensor up there and figured the foam bit was a part of its set up. Since then I have had the SRS Airbag/Urgent warning light.

I know I will probably have to take it to Volvo to clear the code, but my question is: Does anyone know where the piece of foam is supposed to sit up inside that trim piece? I want to put it back together correctly, and hopefully, the code wont come back!

I hope that all made sense~! Thanks for the help

Hello, Did you unplug seatbelt stuff? Wouldn't that light the SRS light? Did you see the sensor? I assume it's an accellerometer or inclinometer for a pretensioner. Using your better eye, position this sensor where you think it goes and put the foam where you think it would serve as rattleproofing. Can you find a "domino" sized imprint/discoloration somewhere? Were you removing the 3rd seat to install soundproofing or to sell it, or both? The "D" pillar is the back of the car against which the rear hatch closes. Please get back to us on this one. I, for one, would like to know if the dealer has the power to remove the third seat belt hardware from the SRS system. Kira
