What type of fuel are you using?

Post by nadz »

I am just curious as to what fuel most people are using in their 850's, are you using regular or premium? I think the manual for my 1995 850 says to run high octane premium fuel but for the 1 year that I have had my car I always just put regular.

Mid or high grade. Regular makes my 850 bog in the summer with its higher ambient air temps + thin air here in Denver.

I was running reg. for awhile when I first got my '96 850 na (oct '09)....then in Jan. I switched to prem....It seems to be quite a bit happier with it.(doing some mileage checks now) I was getting 23.5 on reg.average around town and some short trips....I'll keep you posted on what's going on with premium

Regular 87 Octane in my 95/94 850 GLT.

Everything around here has been 10% Ethanol for at least 5 years now.

You turbo guys "might" need a higher octane, but I have never had any premature detonation/valve rattle/knock with regular in my tank and I've been driving the car for almost 6 years, and my sister drove it for about 3 before I got it. Knowing her it had the cheapest she could find in the tank.

89, or 93 if I'm going on a long trip. My car hates regular.

I generally try to stick to either Shell or Hess gasoline, as I've found some of the off-market brands to be watered down, and after several experiences with my old car not liking cheap gas, I've found those stations to be the most consistent.

Super Plus unleaded here in the UK or 98-99Ron with a Water/Methanol injection so technically 103octane car loves it

Premium for my turbo. Here in Colorado, I believe it is 91. Our scale goes from 85 - 87 - 91

89 minimum and then 91 or 93 during inspection week. Burned exhaust valves and better gas mileage keep me from touching that 87 garbage.

For the year and a half I've owned the '93 850, I've used 87. Winter starts, hot weather, no issues. Hopefully, that will continue.

I ran Shell V-Power 93 Octane in my 850 even before I got the tune. I now have a Volvo S60R and still run the V-Power. I highly recommend it.
