1994 940 SRS SYSTEM

Post by flyer2006 »

I inherited a 1994 940 wagon that was in an accident, deployed airbags, smashed front grill and lights, etc... I've painstakingly replaced all the necessary parts except I guess, a part that's located next to the inertia reel unit of the seat belt, driver side. Is it normal for the reel unit to get stuck in a retracted position after an accident? Do I have to replace this part that looks like an over sized pencil and a steel cable from the seat belt reel unit attached to it? Also there is this connector plugged into it that is similar to the airbag wire connector. The airbags I bought came with a module. Do I have to go to a repair shop to have the system reset? Do I keep the old airbag module? Thanks an awful lot. I have all summer before I start college this fall.

The SRS system includes seat belt tensioners which will have deployed if the crash speed was sufficient to deploy the airbags. The attachment gives greater detail but the tensioners will have to be replaced.

You can dispose of the old airbag module in the same way that you dispose of any other part but it is recommended that you wear gloves and goggles whilst handling any deployed part of the SRS.
