2001 S80 air conditioning temperature doors

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S80 air conditioning temperature doors

Post by frnorke »

My wife's car has cool air coming from the drivers side and warm air from the passenger side when the air conditioner is on. I took it to a mechanic who said that there are doors that open and close when the A/C or heater is turned on. He said that one of these doors is not sealing properly and that I should have the dealer check the timing on these doors; they may be out of sync. Further, the mechanic said that the dealer could probably fix this through a software enhancement or reload/re-calibrate of these doors.

The mechanic tested the pressure in the system and it's fine he says.

Could this be possibly true? I've never heard of these doors before (but what do I know...). Has anyone experienced this type of problem before? Does anyone have a guess as to what type of dealer cost this would involve? Thanks.

Yes there are doors and they have motors that control them. You probably have a bad motor or the linkage has come off. Dealers are always high priced - you might try an independent Volvo shop first.
