Glove Box Removal Question

Post by turbotim2 »

OK, I am trying to get at the blower motor and here is the trouble I am having: I have a Haynes Manual (problem #1), it says to remove 4 screws from the glove box and 4 screws from the glove box door hinges. Well there are 6 screws holding the glove box in on mine, and the 4 hinge screws are inaccessible to any tool without cutting access holes through the bottom of the glove box. Is this what I need to do to get this thing out? BTW, its a 96 850 GLT wagon with ECC and airbags. The manual makes it sound so easy! Thanks!

Don't remove the hinge screws. Put a small screwdriver next to the plastic hinge where they enter the box lid and pry them out. Now remove the six screws holding in the box and remove it. It helps to remove the glovebox lense to give you something to pull on. The glove box should come out with some jiggling/pulling.

Well I tried your suggestion but it looked like I was going to break something if I pried anymore. BTW, the hinges on mine are steel not plastic. Anyway, I decided to tackle the project another time. Thanks for your help.
