oil leak

850 94, my son has this car at college and when he returned to the parking lot and shut off the engine oil began to spu out and on to the side of the car and of course it smoked what could htis problem be?

Just a few questions,

What Engine?
Turbo or not?
Which side of car is the oil leaking?
Is there a color to the oil that is

I'm not sure of the engine it is 5 cylinder and not a turbo. It was I guess spuing out by the drivers side. I was not there just taking the word of an 19 yr old. he said he thought it might be a hose but I would not know what hose it could be or how serious this might be. But he said no doubt it was oil that was spuing. May be this will give you some clues I for one am clueless

the engine I am not sure it is a 5 cylinder not a turbo it is automatic and it was spuing out of the drivers side. He said it was oil and that he thought a hose broke I have no idea what hose this could be for I am clueless to these issues.
