a/c feels blocked

Post by importman »

Interesting problem on my 2001 XC70, let the car idle all day and the a/c blows cold but drive it at 60 mph for 30 minutes and it sounds like the vents close. You can hear the blower blowing but 99% of the air is not coming out, but if I hit the a/c OFF button, its starts to blow normal within a minute and then I turn the ac ON and be fine for another 30 minutes. I brought it to 2 dealers and 2 shops, all were stumped. I even drove it to make it happen and brought it to one of the dealers and one of the shops, and they both scratched their heads. Could it be a over-heating compressor or maybe a computer/sensor problem that makes the vents close? Both are expensive ideas to try, I am not in the mood to have the dash taken off unless it has to be. Any thoughts anyone? The car has 78000 miles on it and this is the first problem I have had.

I think it's your blower going bad. Mine's doing the same thing too. I have a post related to this.

I checked out your post but I am still not sure. The blower is one of the things that everyone checked and is fine. Any other thoughts?

After reading over other a/c posts, I am leaning towards the compressor clutch. Any thoughts anyone?
