Trip Computer 2004 V40

Just bought a 2004 V40 with 56k miles. Seems OK except the Trip Computer is not doing it's thing! No temperature, and the rest of the readings are all spurious - for instance after filing the gas tank, computer told me that I had 25 miles to empty!!!

Is there a sensor that needs replacing or do I have to replace the whole unit?

Anyone with any info please help
