WhiteTurbo850!!!! Transmission Swap?!???!!

Post by egdeaile »

You said something about swapping a manual transmission into the car... How much do you know about this project? Know anywhere to pick up a rebuilt manual tranny? When my auto tranny seizes (probably won't for a lot time, unfortunately), I'd like to drop the five speed in (as if it is that easy...)
I would have PMed you, but I thought this info might benefit everyone. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you have....

Basic outline of what you'll need is: M56H transmission from '96 or '97 850, linkages, possibly a rebuilt master and/or slave cylinder, some interior stuff, pedals, lots of patience. There is a guy that works at VolvoSaabParts that has put together a manual swap kit that he sells. It includes everything you need to do the job. I don't remember the guy's name though. You'd have to call and ask them. http://forums.vptuning.com/viewtopic.php?p=29630#29630 <-- Go there for some pics and tips of a manual swap. Manual transmissions don't really need to be "rebuilt" per se, they just need new clutches every so often. Also, I've found some manual tranny's on eBay for excellent prices. You should also check your local salvage yards and do an online search of them at www.car-part.com. You will also need to have the ECU modified so that it doesn't freak out when there is no signal coming from the TCM. I was considering the manual swap when my slushbox died, but since 90% of my driving is done in the city, I went back with an auto. Driving a 5-speed in bad traffic is no fun. I had my auto tranny custom re-built however and strengthened. It is guaranteed to hold 500 hp at the wheels.
