I think your '99 should be the same as my daughter's '98. It is under the fuse box cover. You need to remove the 4 T-25 torx screws and remove the cover to get to it.

Just returned from O'rielly with the T-25 driver. Any idea where to find info on replacing the relay or by passing it to test it. I have seen postings about use of a paper clip but not enough detail.

Found the relay, did the paper clip jumper and the engine now runs properly. Will get new relay tomorrow.

A big thank you!

I'm sure the relay swith is under the hood, but I cannot distingush whick relay it is. Volvo parts says I need the number on it before they know which one it is. Does anyone know how I can tell which relay it is.

The relay board can be resoldered and put back into service. We did this three years ago in my wife's 850 and not a peep out of it since. Pop the cover off with some fine screwdrivers and take a look.

If you don't solder, ask a friend to try. Ours was intermittently failing especially when under hood temperatures were higher; even when the engine hadn't run and the car sat in the sun.
