The check engine light came on when I accidentally got the driving mode button stuck 1/2 way between sport and economy. Car runs fine. Is there a way for me to disable the light? I need to get the car smogged (live in california) and this light is causing the car to fail. Don't want to take to dealer to get light turned off. Thanks.

That thread tells how to check your codes. Without fixing what's wrong, the light will just get illuminated over and over.

Three ways to reset "Check Engine" Light.
Note: Make sure your gas cap is tight. Tighten it till it clicks 3-4 times. This has caused a check engine light more than once on my wife's '98 S70
1) Drive the car for something like 100 miles or 2 hours, if there is no 'real' problem the light will reset (It does not have to be all in one trip.)
2) Make sure you have your radio code, disconnect the ground side of the battery for a few minutes, reconnect the battery. This will clear the computer's "memory" and reset the check engine light. (It will also clear any codes that would help diagnose a 'real' problem.) If there is a 'real' problem the check engine light will come right back on when you start the engine.
3) Take it to a dealer and ask them to read the codes/reset the light
Note: Autozone will read OBDII codes for free. (They don't reset the light.)
