98 V70 XC - Dashboard wood trim piece

Post by mindshadow »

My wagon is fixed. :) Turns out the last mechanic may have been a tad off on his diagnosis. A new mechanic found a clog in one of the lines near the turbo and they put a new O ring on. I've since put some P21 gel on the wheels and damn do they look sharp. I have some new tailgate struts that should be here today so except for a few little dents and chips my wagon is almost as good as new.

I do have one thing I want to replace that I can't find: The wood trim on the dash. Mine is a tad busted and I've not been able to find it anywhere without buying the whole interior trim kit. Is there a part number or something for it or do you have to replace the whole dash? My interior is black and I believe the wood is supposed to be mahogany or cherry wood.

Thanks.

No I do not have part numbers. On my 01 it appears that the "wood" trim is plastic with a printed wood pattern covered in a layer of polyurethane that is held in place with adhesive. I have debated trying to test my theory by trying to separate the "wood" from the cup holder area, or perhaps the radio area. The polyurethane is starting to break off in large places and it looks like crap. I wonder if anyone out there can inform us on how to remove the wood trim and if we do remove it will the car look normal?

YOU'RE IN THE WRONG FORUM!

98s did not have RED walnut, mostly burled walnut
The trim pieces all come separately, there is not "kit" with all 3 pieces
The radio surround piece is a SOB to R&R, a few hours!!!
(The other two, console and glovebox are easy to remove and replace).

Call erie
http://www.erievovo.com and buy a used piece
I just bought a near perfect console piece for not a lot of money

Call them 1888 VOLVO 13, don't email them, good on phone, bad with emails

I would take a picture and email it to whoever you speak with to confirm the properwood color

My bad, it's actually like a walnut or some other brown wood. I was sitting at my desk and trying to remember how it looked and a redder-colored wood came to mind. Of course, as the other guy pointed out, it's plastic. I can see glue where mine used to be so I guess it just glues right on.

I hit up the WTB forum but nobody responded so I figured I'd ask here to at least find a part number if there is one. The kit I saw was on eBay, so it's of course not an official kit. The one I need to replace is on my glove box. I should have been more specific, sorry.

You need to post a picture
We don't know if you have a factory wood or aftermarket glue on trim

JRL is there a solvent that can be used to remove the glue from what will be left when the trim is removed? Also, any idea what the car will look like? From what I can see it seems that the "wood" may be just stuck on what would be a standard V70 trim.

It usually will ball up in your fingers if you use a little elbow (finger) grease!
If not, there are a number of products that will remove it.
You can try some WD-40, so even if that doesn't work it won't make a mess of the plastic
Spray on, let soak in, rub glue off.
