PTC Nipple removal and cleaning

Can someone tell me how the PTC Nipple is removed from the air intake housing.
Do I have to remove anything else?
What about the vacuum line attached to it?
Volvo V70 AWD SE 2000

That's just one little piece to the puzzle
If you have a glogged breather you should remove everything, intake etc, install new lines, hoses, nipples and a new breather box

Remove the lines and pull. Hard.

You'll probably have to take the whole tube out to get it back in, though. As JRL said, it's likely the whole system is clogged up by now.

Thanks, just wanted to clean that up before I did the whole job to see if it cured the smoke in the dipstick problem.

I had mine apart a few weeks back. I found it was very tight on the intake tube, so I removed the whole assembly first. Once the whole air intake tube is removed, you can carefully pry the rubber flange of the PTC loose, and pop it off the intake tube. Give it a good cleaning, and carefully scrape all the crap out of the inside of that PTC. If it's anything like mine was, it'll be full!

It ran fine before and after. I did the job as part of routine PCV maintenance.

Michael... ive cleaned several and as the above members have mentioned usually if the nipple is clogged then the entire pcv system needs replacing. Cleaning the nipple is just a 'temporary" sometimes fix. What exactly are the problem(s) your having. If your getting smoke out of your dipstick then the pcv sys. needs replacing..

Try and do it when its warm...Clean the outer part of the rubber off, then soak it in WD40 or similar. After this it should be malleable enough to take out by bending one way or another.

Ideally you have to remove the air intake tube (#17) to throughly clean the PTC. But before doing it you must remove the cripped OEM collar (#9). There is a twist to it.

Use a small flat screwdriver and find the end of the ring and pry it off its groves. Then you will be able to remove the air intake. The plastic tubes connected to the PTC are brittles and can be easly broken. Be careful when moving them around.The rest of the procedure was well explained by other member.

The vaccum line is very important. It initiates system draw. Make sure it is well cleaned. Normally the elbow union (#10) is degraded and soft. It should replaced.

This is a quick fix and only a part of the whole solution as already adviced. Good work
