Hi,
How do you open the Fuel cap door in a 99 V70 if the electric door release switch on the drivers door doesnt work? Is there another way? The last car i drove had a cable with a handle attached in the trunk, which you could pull to open the fuel door. It was a backup to the electronic release switch. But i dont see one in my Volvo.
The door release works fine now but if it ever failed i'd be screwed.
Thanks,
Kevin.
Another way to open fuel door?

Check your owners manual, right by the tail lights.

My 850 has it behind the "hatch" that you remove to change the brake lights. You have to pull up the floor on that side to get to the little screw/latch you have to turn to release it. I assume the V70 is similar. You will see a pull ring at the top of the opening when you pull out the hatch.

Well, after reading this thread and then searching for a manual fuel door release on my '98 V70, I also fail to find anything..and the latch mechenism is outside of the passenger compartment which as best I can tell that I will have to access it from the right rear wheelhouse after removing the wheel and fender liner...oh joy, at least I still have about 6 gallons showing on the guage and I am on vacation so I don't have to drive to work for a while. The good news is that the latch assy is only about $75 (plus shipping) at Tasca Ford Parts on line. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I get under the beast.

The emergency release is along the rear quarter panel, inside of the door to access the tail light lamps. Look for a metal loop and pull it towards the back of the car.

Lee - Thanks for the sugestion, but for the life of me I can not find anything but wiring and a hose or two in the right rear behind the trim inside the lamp access pannels or under the floor...back to plan "A".
Update, scrapped plan"A" and found the way to get my arm inside the hollow rear quarter pannel and finaly reach the release mechanism, got the door open and removed the latch catch from the door for now, there was no lanyard to be found, guess they ran out of them that day, it looks like the actuator is toast...so a magnetic latch will do for now, gotta go and get some gas while I can.
