1994 850 turbo wont start
I just bought a 1994 volvo 850 turbo. It ran fine on my 200 mile trip home, stopped for lunch everything was great. I tried to start it later that day and it just cranks and will not start. I checked for spark at the coil and there is none. I went here to find out how to pull the codes, seems easy enough. It will not let me get the codes. I put in the fly wire in A2 and the led light comes on dimly lit, as soon as i push the small button the led light is on bright, when i release it goes back to dimly lit. It would not blink at all even to tell me if there were no fault codes. I have retrieved codes from other vehicles no problem over the years and re read how to do it several times on the volvo. I know i am not doing it wrong. Could the ECU have failed? There is no check engine light on, not even in key position 2 when all the other lights come on. This car also has the OBD II cover under the ash tray, i did not look to see if there is a plug under the cover though. Any help would be great.
Thanks Douglas

You have to hold the button thing down for 2-3 seconds for it to work. It sounds like the bulb for the CEL is burnt out. And yes, there is an OBD-II port under the cover thing inside.

I tried the button for 1 seconds, 2 seconds and 5 seconds. Still nothing.

I tried to get the codes from my 93 volvo 940 turbo and i had no problems. I did this to make sure I was doing it right. When I pluged in the fly wire and turned the key the led light stayed dark untill i pushed the button. The code I got for that was 1.1.1, no problems. I go back to the 850 and cannot get them. Just thought I would add this so if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks again,
Douglas
