V70 D-pillar speakers

I was poking around the cargo area of my '98 V70. Noticed the speaker grills in the d-pillars, popped one off and noticed no speaker. There is a plug there. Does adding a pair of OEM speakers make a difference in the sound quality of the original stereo? Most of the sound seems to come from the front speakers in my car.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the car would have been delivered new without those speakers. Someone must have removed them in the past. I also need new ones, when I removed one to access the tail lights, the magnet fell off. I have seen used speakers on ebay, does anyone know of a supplier of new ones other than the dealer?

I thought I remember hearing that some 4 x 10 speakers will fit the D pillar, but I'm not 100%.

In my 96 855, it made a big difference, most pronounced to rear passengers, but made it sound more open and balanced even from the driver's seat.

It came from the factory with only 6 speakers (doors and dash), so I wouldn't be surprised to see a V70 ship without them.

Mine definitely came without them. The back of the speaker cover has a layer of black foam glued to it, to block the holes in the grill. If I install speakers I can peel the foam from the grill. Are the speakers a right and left part number, or are they same?

They are NOT the same part number, the mounting brackets are mirror images of each other.

I bought mine as a pair off eBay.

Almost bought a pair on ebay last night, glad I didn't. Had my mechanic replace the PCV today, and on his lot was a 850 wagon parts car with the rear speakers. I pulled them and mounted them in my car (for free). Noticeable improvement when sitting in the back seats, slight improvement when sitting up front.
