Hello guys,
First of all, i am really appreciate if you guys can give me some input or any idea how to solve my auto transmission problem. When i put in reverse gear, it is rough engage with clunk sound. For another gear from 1st to 5th, it run smoothly. I am also drain and top up with Toyota T-IV atf oil as i know meet JWS 3309 as a routine maintenance at every 20,000km and total flushing at 60,000km. A few days ago, I serviced my car at Volvo Authorized Service Centre and run computer diagnosis with VIDA software. There is no fault code found on my auto transmission system. Sometimes the reverse gear can engaged smoothly and another time on same day its roughly engaged. I am really do not understand what is going on. Please help me guys…thanks in advance.

A bad transmission buckle mount on mine made reverse shifts pretty rough.

Top engine mount (to firewall) started a clunky noise on my '97 850 when the old rubber-like mount started failing. I replaced with the IPD poly mount and no problems with the "clunk" for more than 50 K miles. It did do the clunk when shifting into drive or reverse, not just reverse.

Thanks for your reply.. guys. I ve changed the top mount engine and another engine mounting before. How about wiring connector with clamp on top of GB and under air filter? Let say, one of the pin inside the connector is not connect properly, will this contribute to harsh and rough reverse gear engagement.
