I currently have the stock stereo system (SC-710) in my '96 850 GL, and would like to swap it out for a double-DIN stereo system that I've already bought (for a previous 850 that got totaled in an accident). It currently has tripped the security system, and displays OFF when I turn it on.
Will I have to have the stereo unlocked by the dealer before I swap it out for the new stereo, or will this affect the installation at all?
Let me know. Thanks in advance!

I don't think it should affect anything. You should just be able to swap your new unit in. I'm pretty sure the code is within the stereo itself which is why you try to get the code if you buy a used original unit. It would also ask you for the code if you disconnected the original unit and connected it back in anyway. I didn't have any problems when I put my Kenwood in.
If you want it to say "code" again, you have to leave the key in POS II with the stereo on (or something like that). It's in the instruction manual.
