Oil Pump seal VS /Oil Pressure Sensor

Post by Juan62 »

I see a small oil leak near the timing belt cover (close to the water pump/TB). Where is the Oil pressure Sensor (sending unit) located? Process of elimination. I will soon take the TB cover off and provide pics this weekend for more information.

Also, while under the car doing brake bleeds, I notice a drip on the corner edge of the bottom Turbo. Not sure if this normal, or if the leak mentioned previous has something to do with. Preparing to do the serp and TB with water pump job prior to 4 July, but I want to make sure I have (All Parts, gaskets/seals) to do this once. :)

What is the proper way to drain the coolant? My understanding is; open coolant reservior cap, turn climate control on HOT (full), open radiator drain plug, open engine drain plug, then Reverse. Finally, add some coolant (but not to fill it), start car with Heat on full high, let coolant circulate, add more coolant as necessary until properly filled, close reservior cap, test drive with A/C on not because its very hot down here. Right?
Thanks.

The oil pressure sensor is on the side of the block that faces toward the front of the car. The oil pump itself is integrated into the crankshaft behind the crank pulley. Oil up around the water pump suggests a leak in the front exhaust cam seal.

Can someone explain to me the Oil Pump Seal setup?

I am doing the Water Pump, Timing Belt soon. While there, I want to replace the Cam seals x2 (leaking) and Crank Seal (not leaking but I want to replace it at 13 years old).

Is there a need to address the Oil Pump Seal?

I found this EXCELLENT LINK, lots of beautiful pictures!

Thanks!

There are 2 separate issues:

1. Front crank seal: I want to replace this.

2. Oil Pump seals etc.: is there a need to remove the Oil Pump and renew the seals?

Like rebuild the oil pump itself? No need; they're almost always good well past the life of the engine (300K+ miles).

So, I will do this:

1. Replace the Crank Seal

2. Leave the Oil Pump alone.

Sounds good?

Sounds good!

I'm not looking forward to removing the cam gears to replace the front cam seals. They look like a PITA to get off without impact tools.

I thought removing the CAM Sprocket is easy.
The CRANK Pulley is harder (either using Volvo tool or Air Tool)?
