timing belt info

Post by aimee11 »

Hey all volvo owners,
I'm new to this site. :D
I have a question - my timing belt has just went and i need to know if my model is equiped with the timing belt protection thing.I believe it's something to prevent the thing to push up when the timing belt breaks.

Do any one know if my model has this feature.

Thank you in advance,

Aimée

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Where a broken timing belt is concerned there are interference engines and non-interference engines. In the interference engines when the belt snaps the pistons continue to move but the valves stop. This allows the pistons and valves to collide causing damage to both. A non-interference engine has enough room between the pistons and valves to prevent damage. The bad news is that your car has an interference engine and there will, in all probability, be some damage.
