Heater damper location

The damper that directs airflow to 'defrost', 'floor', 'dash vents' sticks if left in the defrost position for a period of time.

When I start up the car after it sits overnight with the airflow selector in the 'defrost' position, the selector knob won't turn. After the engine warms up and some hot air flows through the ductwork it frees up and will work nicely.
I believe the damper is sticking because of wear, my theory is that once the plastic warms up it expands enough to work properly.

question is: where is the damper flap located? I've looked through the repair data base, nothing there references the damper flap. Most discussions I see in the forums are in reference to ECC systems and the damper control motors.
mine is the manual, mechanical, cable controlled system.

The damper should be in the same location on your MCC system as the ECC. You can see it if you remove the glovebox, just to the left of the blower. If you need to dink with it, then I believe you have to remove the entire dash!

As I recall, the mode damper lever damper is on the driver's side on the MCC units. You can get to it by removing the lower dash panel and then the stiffener behind the carpet.. It will be the upper lever. Make sure the cable sheath anchors are firmly seated.
