s70 glt exhaust, chip, and gains

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

s70 glt exhaust, chip, and gains

Post by s70glt novice[Will] »

Well, christmas s rolling around and i was wondering what new exhaust i should get for my glt. I would love the racing cat of IPD's but their price is wayyyyy too much for me. its close to a thousand. i was wandering the internet and came across obx exhaust. watched some videos and it sound great. but heres the kicker: obx's exhaust doesnt come with a cat and i live in california where they smog test. apart from that, i dont want to be blowing huge amounts of poisoness chemicals around. :(

So what can i do? are there any other exhaust that come with a cat? can i buy a good high-flow cat for less then 500? or is ipd's exhaust the best bet? i would like to have enough money left over for an ecu, which is why im getting the exhaust, might as well ask this too; do i get more HP and torque if i put a better exhaust on when paired with a tuned chip? darn, now this question too, lol; best chip? i know ipds is good, but ar there any others that are comparably priced, but better? whew. sorry

thanks!

Let the exhaust wait. The ECU will be much better bang for your buck.

Unless you do the entire system you're not going to see much gains above 20bhp to get some serious gains you'd need

Racing cat 100-300 cel
Better injectors blue/green or black
Higher pressure fuel pump to deliver more fuel
faster cams
free flow airfilter
full service
full stainless exhaust 3inch bore minimum
Larger Turbocharger

obviously this cost a lot of cash but the ECU will give a better pickup along with a small gain in power/torque

And the exhaust has to have some more gains then just stock.

Injectors, fuel pump and cams are unneccessary for 90% of the typical mod levels on 850 turbos. You have a low pressure turbo. You need a bigger turbo then you can simultaneously do exhaust (3"dp, 2.5" cat back) and a chip for that setup. Figure out which turbo you want (15G, 16T, 18T, 19T) and then buy an appropriate dp (flange type) and exhaust and then get an appropriate chip/ecu.

Doing a chip first for an S70 LPT might not get you what you're hoping for. Plan it out in the order above and I think you'll get maximum benefit before entering a much more expensive level of cost benefit that involves serious engine mods.
