Serpentine Belt Tensioner....

Post by RDEJR »

Hello all ye who enter here!

My 1996 850 GLT N/A has a little issue that makes no sense to me, or the PO.

the Serpentine belt tensioner constantly bounces on the belt, even with a new properly sized belt, and a new tensioner, it always bounces. Anyone else have this issue? I know that there are 2 styles, a long arm and a short arm. I am not sure which I have at the moment, but I do know that it is the same as the original that was on it.

The belt never squeals, everything works as it should, just that tensioner bounces...

Any suggestions?

How bad is it bouncing? Just movement or actual jumping?

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem. Did you ever figure out what was causing it? I put on a new tensioner and idler pulley, new belt with the long routing and drove it about 20 miles to see if it would settle down. No noise, no squeals, just bouncing. I took off the belt and spun the alt, p/s, and a/c pump and they seem to spin smooth. Thanks.
