New Not so proud owner of a 99 s80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

New Not so proud owner of a 99 s80

Post by papa_4runner »

Hi everyone,
As of last week I got a 99 s80 with 103k on her
Having a few problems, Some I have worked out others I need help.
Fixed Problems
Transmission speed sensor
T B replaced with yellow sticker one
Not fixed
Major oil leak under intake, I think its the PVC box. I read some where its not hard to fix
but I can not find the walk through on it.
Will a leaking PVC cause her to loose power with no faults ?

Welcome aboard!
See if this write-up will help you with your PCV job:

As far as reduced performance, it could be a very long list (from spark plugs to vacuum leaks and air/fuel metering); do you have any related codes?
Thanks
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

It should come out fairly easily with a 1/4 drive and socket, a swivel and long extension. Wrap some duct tape around the swivel to keep it from flopping around. I believe it can be done without the swivel though. Wrap some duct tape around the nut to the socket (just enough so not to get tighten with it) when you reinstall.

I believe there is actually a special wrench. I had the dealer do the flame trap/PCV overhaul/replacement for me. They left their special wrench lying in the engine bay, actually along the fender 'shelf'. I didn't find it until long after leaving the dealership. Since they did such a crappy job, i.e. didn't top up the coolant, etc. I felt no obligation to return it to them. I can scan or photograph it and post it in case you would like to try to make one like it. Let me know.

Oil Trap

This is for a 960 but it looks similar to the S80 unit above. I think papa_4runner was referring to Part (4) Flange Screw, if so no special tool will be needed unless there is some obstruction not seen in the diagram which requires a special way to get to it

I understand the special wrench is for one of the bolts on that bracket. I will try to upload a photo(s) of the special wrench.
