My 850 wagon stereo build

Post by PEWPEW »

Hello to all!

Since buying my wagon, I've been upgrading to stereo.

Gear so far:
2 DIN touchscreen media player (cheap version)
Nakamichi PL460 4 channel
Nakamichi PL1300 mono block
Nakamichi SPC50N 5 1/4" coaxial
Peerless 5" splits.
BM Labs 6 3/4" bass driver
2 x 12" Audiobahn subwoofer in twin sealed cabinet.

Fairly ok setup so far, the headunit is letting me down due to the low voltage output. I plan on getting a line driver to bump it up to 6V.
Currently the amps are under the seats but I will be moving to the spare wheel area and making an enclosure for the subs for the spare wheel well.

The trickiest part was mounting the 6.75" drivers in the doors. But I think I nailed it (see photo) pretty good for first time.

I'll get some more pics up later. Hope you like :D

So finished up the other door. Problem is eliminating the rattles! More sound deadening is required me thinks.
Made some replacement arms rest inserts, covered in black felt. Damn things keep falling off. Super strong Velcro time!

Next week or two I'll start lining the wheel well with fiberglass, running more cables, relocating amps, better battery, more sound deadening....

Contemplating going back to my better Eclipse single DIN CD headunit. I just don't use the multimedia functions on my current unit. Hmmmm.....

Amplifiers have been relocated and counter sunk. Next up is the car wheel well. Have that done in the coming weeks.

Back to my Eclipse headunit, but noisy. Waiting on a Nackamichi to arrive.
Underside shot of the amps, not quite as pretty.

The door speakers are genius, I think I may steal the idea for myself. I have two 6 and a half speakers I'd love to put in my car. Did you leave the stock speakers in the door and out of curiosity did you leave them hooked up? They don't sound too horrible as it is with my current deck but that could be because I have all the bass going out the rear speakers (the only aftermarket speakers I have in my wagon currently anyways)
If I paid attention to signs with little symbols I’d never find anywhere to park.

He he I stole the idea from another site. I replaced all the original speakers, there are three way splits in the front. I still need to re enforce the door cards and add more sound deadening.
