Aux/Ipod input in the cassette player hack - problems

Hi folks,

I have a 2000 s70 GLT. I followed some of the threads here and elsewhere and decided to hardwire in an AUX input by soldering a headphone jack cable onto the circuitboard in the cassette player. I was tired of the marginal quality of my cassette adapter, and the way it reversed back and forth when it was cold instead of playing.

Trouble is, when I reconnected everything, my stereo would no longer accept tapes. It would recognize when I pushed a tape in (actually when I pushed in the old cassette adapter hooked up to nothing) by saying "tape" on the display. It would also reverse when I pressed the tape button, but the motor would not turn to draw the tape down. Consequently, the stereo doesn't think I have a tape in, and will not play any of the sound being fed through the hardwired ipod input.

What could I have screwed up to suddenly make it not load tapes? It doesn't even switch the motor on at all - the tape just springs back out. I know the ribbon connector was connected properly. Is there a mechanical jam of some kind possible?

I don't mind sacrificing my cassette player to get the AUX input to work, but right now I don't have AUX or even my old cassette adapter.
