The electric lock on my wife's 98 V70 wagon's driver door has become very weak. For the most part it doesn't work.
How do I go about either lubing or replacing this?
Also where can I buy one, FCP Groton?
Thanks, Dave

They can be repaired but it is a lot of work. You can get them from the stealer and I have seen them on eBay.

do you mean a lot of work to replace, or to repair the actuator?rspi wrote:They can be repaired but it is a lot of work. You can get them from the stealer and I have seen them on eBay.
FCP Groton no longer carries them. I did find at IDP for about $150.

It is about 1/2 to replace it.
Info in forum but basically:
- Remove inner door trim panel.
(You will need some silicone caulking, same stuff used to caulk your home window, to be used as "glue" as some of the factory glue will detach from the panel).
- Replace the Lock Actuator.
For driver side, PN is 8626183.
Believe it or not, Volvo dealer sells this cheaper than online vendors.
Example: Vendor A ---> $144
Dealer: ---> $120
I usually buy from the Volvo dealer in Kansas City:

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to see if it starts working after the heat wave passes. If not I'll replace it. Off all the actuators, why the drivers door?

Because it is the one that gets the most work with the double lock system. The first unlock is the driver's door only and then second unlocks all of the doors, including the driver's door again. If all of the doors are unlocked all the time the driver's door will get twice as many cycles.Spiney wrote:Thanks for the replies. I'm going to see if it starts working after the heat wave passes. I have a question for the Lock guru re Driver Side Actuator vs EXTERIOR Door Handle.
- Lock the car, pull on the EXTERIOR Door Handle, smooth, no binding. Of course the door does not open b/c it is locked.
- Unlock the car, pull on the EXTERIOR Door Handle, it is binding but the door will open.
I sprayed some lube but it is still binding when pulling on it.
Does this mean my Lock Actuator is going out?
If so, then I'd prefer to replace it BEFORE the door is jammed shut forever.
PS: I already replaced the Front Pass Side Actuator last year, so I am familiar with the DIY.
