1991 volvo 240 no fuel

have a 1991 volvo 240. was not getting any fuel. i have changed the fuel pump and can hear it running when the key is turned , but still not getting any fuel. fuel filter was changed also and does not seem to be any restriction in fuel line. any ideas????

Please give us more information. How do you know the engine is not getting any fuel?

disconnected fuel line at rail and no fuel coming out.

Did you try cranking the engine after you disconnected the fuel rail? My fuel pumps don't activate until I crank the engine.

If you tried cranking the engine and no fuel came out, the next step is to see whether your fuel pump is working. Find your fuel pump relay: it is located next to the ECU under the passenger side kick panel: http://www.davebarton.com/pdf/relay_87_240.pdf

Remove the relay, jump terminals #30 and #87/2 with a piece of wire to bypass the relay and activate the fuel pump. If you can hear it running when you jump the terminals, the pump is good.

If the pump is working, I would suspect the fuel pump relay or the fuse panel. Check to see whether your fuel pump fuse is in good working condition. There is also a method of jumping wires at the fuse panel to check whether your pump is working, but this depends on the location of your fuel pump fuse. On my '88, the left side of fuse #4 runs the in-tank pump, and the right side runs the external pump. I would supply electricity to each #4 terminal with power from the #6 terminal and in this way check each pump's operation. Please refer to the documentation on your fuse panel.
