I have a 2000 S80 that is in fair condition but has minor issues but drives OK. I am buying a 99 S80 that is really nice has a bad ECU/ECM and possibly a bad CEM.
I know they say the ECUs are married to the car but what if you completely swap all the major electronics?
It would technically still be talking with the same devices then, right?
Let me know what you think.
My other option is to strip all the good parts and such off the '99 and put on the '00.
99/00 S80 Total Computer Swap possible?

The only hitch I see is if you need dealer programming for any other reason. A copy of Vida and Dice would be essential equipment for this job.
I don't know if dealers will touch the car if the marked numbers on the body don't match their scan.
Otherwise it sounds fine and has been done. Just don't confuse any module by marking them clearly upon removal The alarm, DIM, REM, antenna ring on steering column and climate panel will also need to come over. ETM will probably not need to be swapped as experience with swaps from the same model/transmission are common.
Post it up and let us know how it went once it's done.

as a minimum you need to replace CEM, ECM & ignition lock. Make sure that parts numbers are the same.
But the car configs also should be similar since CEM contains info about all options installed, engine, transmission, ABS type and etc.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer

Thank you for your input. Hopefully this will help someone else one day.
As for me, the deal is off. Someone offered more for the other car.
