In this video I replaced the heater core in a Volvo S70. It is almost the same in the 850 other than the way you remove the lower dash panels.

This. If anyone's unsure about doing the job, I just did this yesterday and it's dead simple. Provides a good opportunity to drain/replace the coolant and you will be needing your defroster to not be adding fog to the windshield starting around now. Helps that the parts are very affordable, too.

Just a shout out to Robert and his excellent video. I purchased the Swedish auto parts core on eBay for $38.99! My old core was hella nasty and way overdue for a change. I also noticed that my old BEHR core had a 1996 manufacture date sticker on it. So it lasted 19 years. I can't complain. The core from eBay looks to be of great quality and fit perfectly.

After studying Robert's video I was able to get this done in about 2 hours. In reality, I also cleaned the windshield and fixed 2 bad lower dash panel retainers that were cracked. I could have done it in 1.5 if I wasn't so methodical and cleaning every nook and cranny.

Here's the old core. Lots of gunk in the bottom right and leaky coolant.

Here's the trash bag I used to catch the coolant coming out. There was about 1/2 gallon. The old core has been removed in the picture. You can see the aluminum feeder tubes just to the right of the accelerator pedal. Great tip on the trash bag. It would have been a crazy mess otherwise.

Here's the new core right before I put it in. Everything is all cleaned out and new o-rings installed.

Just a heads up, the Swedish Auto Parts heater cores come with a lifetime warranty.

Nice. Now if you don't have one, install a cabin air filter holder and filter.

Thanks, Robert for doing an S70. I plan to change ours as PM along with all the hoses when the weather cools down a bit. I will be consulting this video. It's so much better to know what you're getting into before starting a repair.
