The last Volvo I owed was in 1967 when I owned a 1964 P544 so I am getting up to speed on the Volvo.
We just bought the car and the one front tire had a tear in the sidewall that looked like someone tried to stick a knife into the tire but didn't get through the steel bands.
So off to a yard to buy 4 very good looking tires that match. The rims are 17 inch and the previous tires were 225 profile and the tires I bought are what OEM calls for --- 235 tires. With the 235 tires I have what a lot of people have complained about and that is they rub when I am turning hard -- close to maximum radius.
I looked at the inside of the wheel well and it isn't hitting to bad but I don'[t like it. Went looking about and found that Volvo has a Steering Stop Limiter. Was it an after thought because of an engineering flaw?
My question - if I buy new ones are there slots in them that make them adjustable? I looked at the ones that are on and have no idea how to tell if they are worn past the specs. I can see that the rubber has marks on it. Probably the only adjustment is to add washers behind them.
Thanks for your help.

Question re 2004 V70 Steering Stopper PN 31212191.
My Front wheels are rubbing the liner when in full lock.
I was going to buy new steering stopper until I saw the comments in the youtube video that people simply:
- swap R --> L
- swap L---> R.
Has anyone done the swapping R and L?
Does it work?
Photo shows my existing steering stopper (BLUE arrow).
Youtube video has interesting comments...

I just came up with this idea and wonder if anyone has tried it...
Get a radiator hose of appropriate diameter (I don't know the exact size).
Cut a small piece and slide over the caliper side and zip tie it.
This will add another 5mm of cushion.
Here is a photo of my thought. Any advice?

I finally had a little time to play with the 2004 V70 with 115K miles...
- The stopper is worn about 2-3 mm down.
- P.O. installed 2 washers. Curious...does anyone know if the car came with these washers or not?
- Swapped R to L and vice versa (12-mm bolts).
- Installed rubber hose + zip tie on the Spindle as shown. Actually, this is a nice touch bc when I go to full lock, I can feel the
"softness" of the rubber cushion. Don't know how long the rubber will stay there LOL...Will report back later.

Long-term report...
The hose mod (very easy to do with car on the ground) works great. No more tire rubbing.
- I do not have the bigger hose. I just used what I had
lying around and cut it length wise + Zip tie. You can
use electrical wire or hose clamp too.
- If you happen to have the correct hose size (please post it),
you simple slide it up and done with.

Alright,
So I have a little time today to play with the 1-inch heater hose ($2-$3/foot at local auto parts store).
Cut a 1.5-inch section.
Even with lubricant, it is very tight and I could barely push it up.
I guess you can use a socket etc to push it up.
I ended up cutting it length-wise and zip tied it as the photo above.
The bottom line is: the 1-inch hose is a tight tight fit.
You may be stronger than I am and may be able to push it upward.
