"SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT"

Post by IMSITTINGINYOURCHAIR »

Installed my xm radio tonight and when I was routing the antenna coax wire behind the climate control and radio when I had to turn the key on to move the pass seat to get at a panel. I forgot that I had the radio and climate control in the rear seat while I worked. I thought nothing of this until I finished and went for a test drive to see if the antenna worked properly and the message appeared instead of the trans service required message..

I just thought I would note that if you need to remove the climate control you must connect it before turning the key to any pos other than off. Looks like I've just been forced into buying vida/dice finally.

Hello, I have a 2003 2.4 petrol.

I had to remove the passenger front seat to transport an awkward load. I replaced everything but have the SRS message in the title.

How do I clear this?

Do i need to invest in a fault reader? if so which is the best one?
I have the Carcode software and adaptor for obdII, its pretty old, any chance that is updatable, anybody used that??

many thanks

you need a visit to dealer/shop with vida/dice setup to turn it off.

Better yet get your own setup from China for about $100

Many thanks, I equate those words "visit a dealership" with open your wallet and close your eyes ;>) so would rather avoid if possible.

I'm scouring my mates to see if they have the necessary.

Any idea if the message stops the airbag(s?) working?

Airbags still work. The problem is that you disconnected the power source to the airbags and the ECM saw that and tripped the light on. So you need a code reader able to turn off ABS light.

If you are going to keep that volvo for a while, do invest in that vida/dice setup, is money well spent.

well, the airbag light itself is not on. it comes on with the normal lights when the key is turned on but goes out thereafter.

I still don't get why the climate control has ANY ties to a safety feature like the whole airbag system for example.

Wise words on the vida/dice setup. Fortunately my neighbour has one for his XC90 and I've just been playing with that. Managed to clear the SRS message, also the service needed message.
Also saw loads of other error messages that explain why the drivers door mirror has a mind of its own. Good stuff!
The car also seems to run better and the annoying high idle speed I had on start up seems to have gone.

The car, which I have had for a year, is lowish mileage but has not been near a volvo service for a long time and I think i may have pressed the "clear ecm" button in the dice setup. That seems to have improved things. Anybody else seen that?

Pressing "clear ecm" shouldn't have any effect on adaptives for engine operations such as fuel mixtures set by previous driving data. The command is meant specifically for code clearing or DTC erase as it's known.

From what I've managed to read on the topic only a battery disconnect and full power down by pressing the brake pedal and/or shorting the leads can achieve this. however ECMs have been known for strange and unique operation. Does your idle speed change then self regulate after ECM clear?

Off the main topic and on to the new subject. does the battery disconnect clear the transmission adaptation too? I changed the fluid today using the drain fill method twice with a 20 mile drive between the first drain and the second drain/fill and it shifts different but I don't think it is completely settled.
