Sc-811 vs sc-816
I was swapping the 811 from an 850 back and forth with the 816 last night. In my v70 the 811 definitley sounds better - more midrange and fuller sound. I was surprised any thoughts?

The 811 is the non-CD version, correct?

That's correct, 811 is tape only.

I always thought it was the superior acoustics of a small cabin area in my wife's 850 sedan that has the SC-811 as compared to my V70's sound. I have a SC-816 on the shelf that I tried in her sedan however it needs re soldering somewhere for as soon as it has warmed up it gives white noise like a closed down TV station when in radio mode (how do I remember this without Billy Joel's Glass Houses album?)
Must repair it and compare one day.

I ran into this swapping an 815 and a 701 between an 855 and an 854.
It seemed like the 815 had a bass emphasis circuit that was meant for a wagon; it sounded great there, but was muddy and overbearing in the sedan. the 701 sounded da bomb in the sedan, but had a distinct lack of cojones in the wagon. Each came in the vehicle it sounded worst in, oddly enough.
From what I've read and heard myself though, only the SC-901 has anything approaching decent audio circuitry. It's just a fight between sucks-acceptably and sucks-terribly. I went with a JVC non-touchscreen dash unit and haven't looked back.
