2000 Volvo S80 P0442 code?
I realize that each problem is unique, but does anyone have information about common failure points for this code? I don't believe it is a fuel cap seal problem. Just curious to know if anyone has information related to this topic. I was going to start by examining the J hose between the fuel tank and the purge canister.

Purchased J hose (Part #1270255). Will I be able to get to this by putting the car on jack stands or does it require a garage with a lift? I heard gaining access to this hose is complex. Anyone supplying information would be greatly appreciated. AllData does not go into that level of detail.
Ah you've come to the right place! See my post about the one end of the hose.

Now to get to the other end you can either take the exhaust apart along with the rear suspension. I have decided the hell with that and just cut an access hole in the wheel well of the trunk. I cut one hole a bit to the right of center and found a rubber hose that was split and went to a hard plastic line. Not even sure what that does but I spliced it. The other end of the J hose looks to be slightly left of the center of the car and the bottom of the well. From underneath on my car I can see the hoses going into the solenoid valve have nylon zip ties on them
Who went to all this trouble of taking everything apart and then using a zip tie? Spend 50 cents on some real hose clamps.
I'm waiting to see if those zip tied hoses are sealed. Otherwise its time to cut.

Thanks Astouffer, but I'd prefer not to splice my new part. I found the following post on another forum and plan to attempt:
the hose is the one that runs from the charcoal canister to the shutoff valve both of which are above the rear suspension, not the pvc hard plastic tubing. this is a rubber hose and if you just take the exhaust loose from the hangers and let it hang you shouldnt have to take the whole exhaust off to do the job. the hose splits right at the charcoal canister every time.
hope this helps
