1994 850 EGR flow too high

Post by rebecca8 »

Hello,
I recently checked the OBD after the CEL went on. I pulled a 1-5-4 code from port A-6. I was trying to test the vacuum solenoid, so pulled the yellow hose off at the solenoid above the fan with engine running. I can feel a vacuum pulling air into that yellow hose when it is removed at the solenoid port. I'm wondering if this is a good thing. Does it mean the valve itself is ok? I felt a very slight hiccup in idle a couple of times now. I've reset the computer already. The same code comes back, but not right away. It might take a few days or maybe it depends on engine temp. I'm not sure. Thank you.

The "flow too high" code usually indicates a stuck EGR valve and it can usually be revived with a good cleaning. Any solvent will work, I normally use either brake cleaner or carb cleaner, whichever one I have handy. Be sure to order a new gasket and also clean the hole in the bottom of the intake manifold. The intake manifold hole is notorious for getting clogged up and causing a EGR "flow too low" code.

If the PCV is in need of service, you may want to make it one clean swipe.
